Magnesium is thought to be naturally anti-inflammatory and pain receptor blocking. It's also believed to relax both muscles and nerve sheaths. It may also support the brain wave signaling; cortical spreading depression, which produces the visual and sensory changes in the common forms of aura associated with migraine.
Arnica is believed to be anti-inflammatory and may have a similar action to ibuprofen.
Zingiberene, a main constituent in ginger oil, may reduce inflammation and provide support for muscle aches, arthritis, migraines and headaches. It may also support relief of feelings of nausea associated with pain.
Peppermint has an anti-spasmodic and cooling effect that inhibits muscle contractions in the head and neck while also stimulating blood flow to the area. A study shows that peppermint oil may have pain relieving advantages for fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome. It also energizes the cells by increasing oxygen saturation.
Wintergreen oil contains the natural and powerful pain relieving constituent, methyl salicylate. one teaspoon of wintergreen oil contains as much methyl salicylate as about 20 aspirin.
A study found that lavender oil inhalation may be significantly effective in acute management of migraine attacks. Researchers found that, when diluted, lavender oil applied topically may provide support comparable to the prescription medicine, tramadol.
Frankincense oil's principal constituents, Boswellic Acid, may have anti-inflammatory properties that support arthritic pain. Researchers believe frankincense may prevent the release of inflammation causing leukotrienes.
Rosemary contains key chemical compounds that act as analgesic to inflammation and pain. It has traditionally been used for musculoskeletal pain support.
Research suggests that Eucalyptus oil may relieve inflammation and swelling. It has historically been used to regulate and activate the nervous system for nerve pain, headache and "debility".
Hemp oil contains cannabinoids that alter pain receptors to reduce pain.
Almond oil has a very relaxing effect on the blood vessels.
Feverfew has historically been used for headaches and migraines. Its main active constituent, sesquiterpene lactone, parthenolide, may work to reduce the likelihood of migraines through physiological pathways.
Devil's claw, historically used for pain support, contains the plant compounds, iridoid glycosides, which have been shown may suppress inflammation.
Researchers found that topical menthol can act as a counter-irritant, with cooling effects, which desensitizes the sensory nerve cells called nociceptors.

"I think your magnesium spray might be the only thing keeping me alive at the end of this pregnancy.
