Did you know your body releases a natural painkiller when you cry and it is even stronger than morphine?

Every time you cry your body produces an endogenous opioid called leucine-enkephalin, which binds to the same receptors as morphine and is 6 times more potent.

This is only produced by emotional tears. Tears from cutting onions are mostly just water, while emotional tears contain cortisol, adrenaline, prolactin and leucine-enkephalin.

Your body literally flushes stress hormones out through your tears and replaces them with painkiller.

It has been measured that people who cry regularly have lower blood pressure, lower cortisol levels and stronger immune function.

Next time your body tells you to cry, let it, it’s self-medicating.
