Orange Benefits

Orange Benefits

Oranges are a nutritional powerhouse, packed with vitamins and minerals. They are especially rich with vitamin C, a water-soluble antioxidant that prevents cell damage.

Every cell in the body contains DNA, which is vulnerable to damage, or mutations, when exposed to free radicals. When DNA mutates, it can lead to the growth of cancerous cells. Vitamin C neutralizes free radicals and can prevent this mutation.

The vitamin C found in oranges forms blood vessels, muscles, cartilage, and collagen production in your bones. It fights inflammation and can reduce the severity of conditions like asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer. It boosts the body's immune system to protect against viruses. It improves iron absorption and fights anaemia. It slows age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which can lead to vision loss. It lowers blood pressure and cortisol, the stress hormone. Oranges lower blood pressure and reduce cholesterol. They stimulate digestive juices and prevent constipation.

Citrates and potassium in oranges inhibit the formation of kidney stones, while also keeping blood sugar levels regulated.

Flavonoids in oranges reduce inflammation on blood vessels.

Oranges contain approximately 55 milligrams of calcium, or 6% of your daily requirement. Folic acid is an essential B vitamin the body uses to create DNA and divide cells, and it’s abundant in oranges. If you don't have enough folate in your diet, it can lead to blood disease, cancer, and even birth defects. If you're pregnant, have an orange. It's a great natural source of folate.

Citric acid in oranges can alter pH levels in the urine and prevent the formation of calcium oxalate stones, or kidney stones.

Traditionally, oranges have been used medicinally for immune health, cardiovascular health, arthritis, rheumatism, osteoporosis, virus protection, colds, flus, asthma, cancers, anaemia, improved iron absorption, macular degeneration, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney stones, constipation, blood sugar regulation, diabetes, skin health, wound healing, collagen production, uterine prolapses, indigestion, shock, improving cerebral blood flow, reduction of neurotoxicity, Alzheimer’s, Dementia, blood purification, fevers, thirst, hiccoughs, wind, stress and much more.

Another yummy way to eat ourselves well.
